Brotherhood of Penitents of St. Dismas

We are a Brotherhood of Penitents, that is, men dedicated to the practice of Christian penance. Penance has been an element in Catholic brotherhoods from their beginning. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches

(cf. nn.1430-34), that penance is the outward expression of our interior conversion from sin. Scripture and Catholic tradition identify three main forms of penance: Prayer, Fasting, and Alms giving. Our brotherhood fosters the spirit of penance by teaching our brothers to pray to fast, and by organizing works of charity in which all are encouraged to participate.
